JAKARTA - Moscow will have to choose unusual targets for its retaliatory strikes, in response to the Kyiv attack on civilian facilities, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

"Our enemies cannot achieve success in their counterattacks, which means they will seek victory in the information field, no matter how exaggerated and irrational. They made many fools in Ukraine really happy, especially now that the level of tension in Ukrainian society is rising. Moreover, their Western supporters are starting to show impatience," Medvedev wrote on Telegram, reported by TASS, July 25.

"This is why the 'Banderite' bastards are increasingly choosing peaceful civilian targets for their heinous attacks. Everyone should be prepared for this," the former president continued.

"We also need to select non-standard targets for our attacks, not just storage areas, energy centers and oil bases. There are other places where no one is expecting us and where an attack will have far-reaching effects," Medvedev added.

As previously reported, the Russian Ministry of Defense previously told journalists, "in the morning of July 24, Kyiv attempted to carry out a terrorist attack on facilities in Moscow, using two drones, which was thwarted."

The ministry said "electronic warfare systems jammed two Ukrainian drones, causing them to crash." No one was injured, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on the Telegram messaging app that two non-residential buildings were hit at around 04:00 a.m. local time, but did not cause serious damage or casualties.

It was not immediately clear whether the drone hit the building when it went down, or whether it was deliberately targeting the building.

Neither the Ministry of Defense nor the Mayor of Moscow said where the drone was intercepted.

Separately, Russia's state news agency quoted emergency services as reporting that the wreckage of the drone was found near a building on Komsomolsky Street, which runs in the center of Moscow City. The location is only about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Defense Ministry building.
