JAKARTA - The climb to Mount Gede Pangrango was reopened today, July 17, 2023 after two months of closure due to irresponsible actions from a number of climbers.

"The reopening of the climb is based on Circular Number 07/BBTNGGP/Tek/07/2023 concerning the Opening of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Climbing Activities, but climbers are asked to register for climbing online," said Head of the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Center (BB TNGGP) Sapto Aji when contacted, Monday, July 17, confiscated by Antara.

Sapto said climbers who register directly at the climbing post are no longer served. For quotas per day, TNGGP BB only serves 600 people.

He emphasized that TNGGP BB will impose severe sanctions on those who choose to climb illegally.

Those who are proven to be climbing illegally will be blacklisted as climbing in all mountains in Indonesia.

"We will also discipline traders who open stalls along the hiking trail and place officers to supervise and sign the prohibition of setting up tents in prohibited areas in national parks," he said.

Sapto explained that the prohibition sign for setting up tents near the Flower Edelweis area and on the waterways must be obeyed by climbers, so that they can become intelligent climbers who obey all the rules.

"Smart climbers must continue to maintain conservation areas, bring back the food waste they bring, and preserve nature in national parks," he said.
