DENPASAR - Denpasar City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) officers synergize with Customs and Excise to control illegal cigarette sellers without excise in the capital city of Bali Province.
Head of Denpasar City Satpol PP AA Ngurah Bawa Nendra said the control has been carried out since the past week targeting grocery stores spread across four sub-districts and as a result, a number of shops sell cigarettes without excise.
"The control of non-excise cigarette sellers is one of the efforts to support the order and comfort of the people of Denpasar," said Ngurah Bawa in Denpasar, Antara, Sunday, July 16.
Based on data from the Denpasar City Satpol PP, the first control on Monday, July 10 targeted the East Denpasar District with 10 stores. Four shops were found selling cigarettes without excise with a total of 168 packs of cigarettes.
Furthermore, Tuesday, July 11, in North Denpasar District, targeting 10 shops. In this sub-district, eight cigarette slots are also controlled without excise duty.
On Wednesday, July 12, control targeted West Denpasar District by visiting 10 shops. Eight packs of illegal cigarettes were found without excise.
Thursday (13/7) the control was carried out in South Denpasar District. A total of 164 packs of cigarettes were brought under control from two stores.
According to Bawa Narendra, currently, there is widespread circulation of cigarettes without excise in the community. Therefore, through this control, sellers and the public are expected not to sell and buy cigarettes without excise.
"In the last few weeks, we have continued to intensify with Customs and Excise, we are holding inspections and controlling cigarette sellers without excise," he said.
He emphasized that this control was carried out not only to find fault with the community. But to provide education and understanding that cigarettes without excise are illegal and prohibited.
In this activity, traders who were found to be selling illegal cigarettes without excise were given a warning and carried out confiscation by Customs and Excise and would later be destroyed by the Customs Team.
"We hope that at the same time we urge traders and the public so that in the future they will no longer sell or buy illegal cigarettes without excise. If they are not heeded, strict action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations," said Ngurah Bawa.
