Staying At Five-Star Hotels For Two Years But Not Paying Bills Of IDR 1 Billion, This Man Is Policed

JAKARTA - A man was reported to the police after leaving the five-star hotel he had been visiting for about two years, with mounting bills.

Roseate House, located in India's capital, New Delhi, to be precise near the international airport in Aerocity, reported Ankush Dutta and the hotel staff allegedly linked, after he stayed for more than 600 days but left a bill of 5.8 million rupees or around Rp. 1,064,368,072.

The hotel said they suffered losses due to collusion between Dutta and the head of Prem Prakash's front office

Prakash is accused of extending Dutta's stay, with the possibility of having received cash to manipulate the hotel's internal software system, which tracks the stay of guests and financial accounts, according to media reports.

"A criminal conspiracy was carried out by Ankush Dutta's guests along with several known and unknown hotel staff, including Prem Prakash, with the motive of getting the wrong benefits and seizing the hotel bill he should have," the police report said.

The report said Prakash faked unpaid payment reports by combining unrelated guest bills to hide Dutta's contributions.

Hotel staff "forgery, delete, add account entries and falsify a large number of entries" on Dutta's account, he added.

Quoting the BBC from the Indian Express, the man made room for overnight and checked in on May 30, 2019. However, he lived there until January 22, 2022.

Meanwhile, the hotel policy states that if there are guests staying for more than 72 hours, the chief executive must be notified, something Prakash allegedly did not.

Dutta is known to have handed over three checks worth of one million rupees, 700,000 rupees, and two million rupees on a different date, all of which cannot be disbursed.

The hotel said the perpetrators carried out "criminal acts, criminal violations of trust, fraud, forgery and account forgery".

"According to hotel rules, if guests owe more than 50,000 rupees to hotels, staff should notify the authorities and encourage guests to pay. However, this is not done," said a senior police officer.

It is known that the case was reported to the police on May 24. No one has been arrested in this regard.
