GORONTALO - Acting Governor of Gorontalo Ismail Pakaya forbade schools to hold graduation graduation for the High School (SMA), Vocational High School (SMK), and Special School (SLB) levels.
"I pay serious and firm attention to prohibiting SMA, SMK, and SLB which are under the authority of the provincial government to carry out graduation of Class XII students," said Ismail Pakaya in Gorontalo, Antara, Wednesday, June 21.
For those who are just about to implement it, he said, it should be canceled even though it has been agreed upon by the committee.
"Return the money that has been collected from students' parents. Especially for high schools, vocational schools, SLB who are still graduating, I will give sanctions to the principal," said Ismail Pakaya.
He held online meetings with all principals of SMA, SMK, and SLB throughout the Gorontalo Province.
According to him, at the school committee meeting to make a decision on the implementation of the graduation, many parents were silent.
"They only complained after returning home, because they were embarrassed to say they were unable to pay donations at the committee meeting. I'm sure the principals know the condition, we're the only ones who pretend they don't know," he said.
The Expert Staff for Social, Political and Public Policy at the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower said that many received messages from parents of students who objected to the implementation of graduation at school.
Therefore, he asked school principals to openly prohibit fundraising for the implementation of graduation.
"We have just finished the COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in economic difficulties. So there should be no additional burdens that burden parents," he said.
