South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman/DOK VIA ANTARA

South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman revealed that based on data from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, there are 11 villages left behind in this province.

"In 2021, the number of Very Disadvantaged Villages in South Sulawesi is 38 villages and the latest data, 2022 has dropped to only 11 villages. We continue to encourage empowerment and independence in the village," said Andi Sudirman in Makassar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.

The decline in 38 villages is very lagging behind so 11 villages are marked by infrastructure development and an increase in village community income.

The 11 villages that are very lagging behind are in three districts, namely Pinrang, Tana Toraja, and North Toraja.

The villages are Basseang Village, Kariango Village, Lembang Mesakada Village, Letta Village (Pinrang Regency); Lembang Sandana, Lembang Simbuang BatUALlu (Tana Toraja Regency); Lembang Baruppu Benteng Batu, Lembang Baruppu Parodo, North Baruppu Lembang, Talbangan Batu Lembang, and Lembang Saand Ulusalu (North Toraja Regency).

As a form of commitment to eradicate underdeveloped villages, Andi Sudirman has held a meeting with the relevant village heads to provide direction and strategies to eradicate villages that are very lagging behind. The meeting was attended by the South Sulawesi Community and Village Empowerment Service (PMD).

"For this year, we intervened by stopping the village, we are very lagging behind through the allocation of financial assistance," he said.

In addition, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government has also disbursed a number of financial assistance to regencies/cities in South Sulawesi. This is done to support development, especially infrastructure improvements.

"We hope that this financial assistance will be used as well as possible. This includes encouraging development in villages. So that it can increase our Building Village Index (IDM) in South Sulawesi," he said.
