Prabowo Believes US-China Leaders Are Wise In Acting For The Sake Of World Peace

JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto highlighted the global competition between the United States (US) and China as a new force and believed the leaders of the two countries could be wise in order to maintain world peace.

"I think that the second leader of strength in this competition is a wise leader. They must be aware of the burden on their shoulders," Prabowo said at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue 2023 in Singapore as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 3.

Prabowo reminded history that when a big power arises to be able to deal with global forces that are already capable, it will practically increase tensions.

"And historical records prove this kind of conflict often ends up being an open conflict," Prabowo said in a speech as monitored via the official IISS YouTube channel from Jakarta, Saturday.

Meanwhile, a number of people also consider the competition between the US and China to be a new Cold War. According to Prabowo, every war, both hot and cold, is always close to the threat of disaster to the whole world.

"Especially in today's era which is colored by advances in science, technology, artificial intelligence, quantum jumps, as well as new technological findings. In today's era, any power confrontation could soon lead to catastrophic distress," he explained.

In fact, Prabowo said a number of experts thought that Indonesia would experience suffering and die slowly even though it was not directly involved in open conflicts in the event of a nuclear war.

He reminded that compromise is not only an Asian tradition, but also the only way that people and communities can prosper.

"Human history teaches that compromise and coexistence are the only lasting ways to get to prosperity," Prabowo said.

Therefore, the Minister of Defense is optimistic that the leaders of the two great powers will find wisdom through an understanding of the long history of their civilization.

Prabowo said China has a long history, perhaps even the longest recorded in human history, and has been and will always be a great civilization.

Meanwhile, continued Prabowo, the United States is a leader as well as part of Western civilization that has brought humanity through the renaissance and enlightenment era and improved the welfare of mankind through science and various findings.

"Therefore, I believe that Chinese leaders and leaders of the United States or the United States will be able to resolve this conflict through compromise, cooperation, and humanity, in order to produce a peaceful resolution over existing differences," he said.

Prabowo also does not mind if he is considered eternal optimistic because of his views on global competition between the United States and China.

"Because the alternative to this optimistic view is something that I don't even dare to consider," said Prabowo.
