Wave 4 Meters Opportunity To Approach Maluku Waters, BMKG Asks Fishermen To Be Alert

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) conveyed an early warning regarding the possibility of waves as high as 2.5 meters to four meters in Maluku waters from 25-26 May 2023. The head of the Ambon Ashar Maritime Meteorological Station said waves as high as 2.5 to four meters during that period were likely to approach 11 water areas in Maluku, including the East Seram Sea as well as the waters of Buru and Ambon-Lease. The southern waters of Seram, Banda Sea, Sermata-Leti waters, the waters of the Babar Islands, Tanimbar waters, the waters of the Kai Islands, the waters of the Aru Islands, and the Arafuru Sea also have the opportunity to experience waves as high as 2.5 to four meters. Meanwhile, moderate waves, between 1.25 meters to 2.50 meters, are likely to occur in the West Seram Sea. High waves are at risk of shipping safety. "We ask people who live and work on the coast around areas where high waves are likely to occur to remain vigilant," said Ashar in Ambon, Antara, Thursday, May 25. He appealed to fishing boat users to be aware of the wind with a speed of more than 15 knots and a wave height above 1.25 meters and barge users to be aware of the wind with a speed of more than 16 knots and a wave height of more than 1.5 meters.

Ferry operators are asked to be aware of winds with speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 meters and large ship operators such as cargo ships/cruise ships are advised to be aware of winds with speeds of more than 27 knots and wave heights above four meters.
