Palestinian Citizen Investigated for Legal Case, MUI Demands Fair Process and Requests Government to Provide Official Explanation

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) responded to reports regarding the handling of the law against a Palestinian citizen (WN) in Indonesia, Abdul Karim Raed Miqdad. MUI emphasized the importance of fair, transparent law enforcement, and prioritizing human rights (HAM).

The official statement was delivered directly by the Chairman of the MUI for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim.

"MUI respects the authority of law enforcement officers in carrying out their duties in accordance with applicable legal provisions," said Prof. Sudarnoto in his statement in Jakarta.

5 Points of Appeal and Official Attitude of MUI

Regarding the handling of legal cases involving Palestinian citizens, the MUI Leadership Council conveyed five points of official attitudes:

Enforcement of Fair and Transparent Law: MUI asks that all legal processes be transparent, fair, and uphold human rights, including the fulfillment of the right to legal assistance and adequate protection. Security Guarantee If There is an Extradition/Transfer: If there is an option to transfer or deport to another country, the government is asked to ensure that the decision does not endanger the safety, basic rights, and human dignity of the person concerned based on international law. The Importance of Official Government Statements: MUI hopes that the government will immediately provide official explanations to the public in order to prevent speculation, misunderstanding, and uproar in the community. Respect for Legal Authority: Respect the steps of law enforcement officials who are carrying out their duties in accordance with the applicable legal corridor. Indonesia's Commitment to Palestine: MUI emphasizes that the handling of this individual case should not damage or erode public views regarding Indonesia's firm commitment to supporting Palestinian independence, as mandated by the opening of the 1945 Constitution.

MUI reminded that issues involving Palestinian citizens are very sensitive for the Indonesian people. Therefore, transparency from the authorities is considered very crucial so that there is no public distrust or disinformation.

Sudarnoto hopes that the handling of this case will be carried out carefully without harming the principles of diplomacy and the historical commitment of the Indonesian nation to the Palestinian people's struggle.
