Sepaku Penajam Paser Utara Floods, BPBD Deploys River Water Normalization Excavators

The floods hit Bukit Raya, Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser (PPU), East Kalimantan (Kaltim) on Wednesday, May 10.

The intensity of high rain from 03.00 WITA to 06.00 WITA today caused the Sepaku Watershed (DAS) to overflow and then inundate residential areas. Mainly in the area along the Sepaku River.

The Head of the PPU Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Budi Santoso said his party had alerted excavators for flood mitigation in residential areas.

"We together with the Bukit Raya Village Government normalized the water channel using a mini excavator," he said in Penajam, East Kalimantan, Wednesday, May 10, which was confiscated by Antara.

Budi explained that the number of buildings affected by the flood was two houses with four families (KK) in one RT, while one RT only inundated the yard.

The details are that in RT 01 the flood only reaches the yard with a water level (TMA) between 60-100 centimeters (cm), in RT 02 there are two houses with two families inhabited by four people.

"TMA in the yard in two houses in RT 02 between 50 and 60 cm, then TMA in the house in the range of 3 cm," said Budi.

The team in the field that assisted BPBD PPU in handling floods included Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas, Bukit Raya Village Head along with the authorities, the head of the local RT, and residents.

Previously, floods also occurred in Sepaku District, PPU, East Kalimantan on Monday, May 8, due to heavy rains. However, in the afternoon, the puddles had receded.

Floods on Monday, May 8, were initially predicted by BMKG Balikpapan Station, which informed that there would be moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning in the Sepaku District area.
