JAKARTA - The MI-8AMT type water bombing helicopter fleet with registration RA-22834 belonging to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has started to extinguish fires at the Jatiwaringin landfill, Mauk, Tangerang Regency, Banten, by releasing water bombs to several fire points.

ANTARA's monitoring on the ground, Wednesday, July 1, one unit of the helicopter fleet began releasing water bombs just north of the Jatiwaringin landfill. Where the water bombing fleet arrived from Pondok Cabe Airport, Pamulang, South Tangerang, at around 16.55 WIB.

During the blackout, this BNPB mitigation unit focused on watering the surface of the garbage which was still emitting smoke, because it was suspected that there was still fire in it.

This special helicopter will also relieve field officers from the local BPBD. Because, the air fleet has an air transport capacity of up to 4,000 liters to drop water directly to the fire points.

In this case, BNPB deployed two units of water bombing helicopters to overcome the fire blackout at the Jatiwaringin landfill, Mauk, Tangerang Regency, which occurred since Tuesday (30/6).

The Director of Operational Control Coordination at BNPB, Brigadier General TNI Djohan Darmawan in Tangerang, Wednesday, said that two MI-8AMT type helicopters were repositioned from Jambi and Palembang Provinces and deployed to the location in the TPA fire extinguishing operation.

"BNPB is currently seconded two heliwater bombing units which are currently at Pondok Cabe Airport, and the other one will arrive shortly from Jambi," he said.

Djohan said that the fire extinguishing operation scheme was carried out on the lower side from north to south of the landfill, spraying water as cooling by BPBD, TNI, and local police officers.

"It is indeed impossible to reach the point of fire, because the unstable conditions are risky. Because the pile of garbage is more dangerous than the personnel of our colleagues from the fire department and the TNI, Polri," he said.

BNPB together with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) will prepare a special aircraft fleet used in the Weather Modification Technology (TMC) operation to help accelerate the blackout. So, this emergency situation can be controlled.

"I need clouds to irrigate the salt. So, both central and regional steps, we will not let it go. We have to be quick to respond," he said.

Until now, the area of the Jatiwaringin landfill fire has reached approximately 15 hectares. Previously on Tuesday (30/6) the impact of the fire reached five hectares, so this has expanded.
