PPP Asks The Police To Investigate The Motive For The Shooting Of The Jakarta MUI Office

JAKARTA - The Central Executive Board (DPP) of PPP, assessed that the shooting of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) office in Central Jakarta was a criminal act. PPP asked the National Police to thoroughly investigate the motives and interests behind the incident.

PPP DPP chairman M Thobahhul Aftoni said motive and interests needed to be revealed so as not to cause various opinions or speculations that could trigger disharmoni in religious life.

"We strongly condemn the perpetrators of the incident, although it was reported that the perpetrator had died, we want the police to reveal what motives and interests were behind the incident," Aftoni told reporters, Tuesday, May 2, which was confiscated by Antara.

Aftoni also asked the National Police to immediately conduct a professional and open investigation to reveal the motive for the shooting incident and why the shooter could have died.

"Do not let this incident lead to various opinions and speculations that can trigger a dysharmoni of religious life. For this reason, we ask that the police be transparent and investigate these events in a professional manner," he said.

The Secretary General of the Youth Kaaba Movement (GPK) also asked all parties to remain calm, not be provoked and maintain a conducive situation at this time.

"To the public to remain calm, not to be provoked and not to be influenced by news indicated as hoaxes, in order to maintain a conducive atmosphere," he said.
