BPBD Records 11,808 People Affected By Flood In West Sumbawa That Is Now Gradually Receding

NTB - Head of the NTB Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ruslan Abdul Gani said the floods that occurred in West Sumbawa Regency caused 11,808 people to be affected.

Floods hit West Sumbawa due to the overflow of the Brang Rea Taliwang river due to high-intensity rains since Monday 13 February. Today the flood has receded.

"A total of 2,952 households (KK) or 11,808 people were affected by the floods in West Sumbawa Regency," he told journalists, Tuesday 14 February, as reported by Antara.

The flood had submerged nine villages or sub-districts. As for them, they are the Salit Seminar Village, Sapugara Bree, Tepas Sepakat, Tepas, and Beru Village which are in Brang Rea District.

Furthermore, the flood-affected areas are also in Tamekan, Sampir, Bugis, and Menala which are in Taliwang District.

Ruslan revealed, in a number of areas floods are still inundating residents' homes. He said residents needed tarpaulins, blankets, ready-to-eat food, and mineral water.

"Until now the water is still inundating residents' houses," said Ruslan Abdul Gani.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant against extreme weather (the La Nina phenomenon) in the form of strong winds and heavy rains which have the potential to cause floods, landslides, tornadoes and tidal waves," he said.
