TKDN Motorized Vehicles In Indonesia Exceed 70 Percent, Minister Of Industry: President's Hope Is Easily Realized

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the opening of Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2024 at ICE BSD, Tangerang Banten, today said that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has a big dream so that Indonesia can produce domestically made cars.

Reflecting on the existing data, Agus assessed that it is not difficult to produce Indonesian cars, because the national automotive industry has the ability to realize this.

Agus said that based on a report from the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) Yohannes Nangoi, currently many cars in Indonesia have a domestic content level (TKDN) of 70 percent or even more.

"With the ability of the automotive industry that was previously conveyed or reported by Pak Nangoi, the average TKDN is already above 70 percent, some are even 80 percent, so it shouldn't be difficult for us to sit together to design an Indonesian car which is the hope of the President," Agus said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 22.

The president, he said, always said that Indonesia has a lot of smart people and a large automotive market, so that the dream is very possible to be realized.

He hopes that Gaikindo will soon realize the President's dream to produce Indonesian cars.

"I hope that in the near future Gaikindo will be able to realize what is the dream of the president, that there is an Indonesian car starting from the end, from the design, the production process, and so on, the material is entirely the production of our nation's children," said Agus.

General Chairman of Gaikindo Yohannes Nangoi said that currently more than 15 vehicles have pocketed the domestic content level (TKDN) above 70 percent.

"We have to report that currently many motorized vehicle models have been born in Indonesia. In fact, more than 15 models have TKDN above 70 percent," said Nangoi at the opening of the 2024 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Show (GJAW) exhibition at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, Friday (22/11/2024).

Nangoi considers that this is in line with the Government's vision to present the "Indonesian Car" as a national pride.

The presence of domestically designed and produced motorized vehicles, he said, will not only strengthen Indonesia's position in the domestic market, but also become an important capital to compete in the global arena.

"Gaikindo and all of its members see these challenges and are committed to realizing the presence of Indonesian cars, which in the future will be the pride of Indonesia," said Nangoi.
