JAKARTA - One of the sling ropes of the Regoyo River suspension bridge connecting Sumberwuluh and Jugosari Villages in Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency, East Java Province, has been cut off.
"From residents' accounts, one of the rope slings on the Kali Regoyo suspension bridge was broken due to being hit by cold lava floods from Mount Semeru," said Deputy Regent of Lumajang Indah Amperawati as quoted in a local government press release in Lumajang, Thursday, February 9, reported by Antara.
The Deputy Regent said that the suspension bridge could still be used, but he urged residents to be careful when crossing it.
"I have inspected the location of the suspension bridge and to anticipate the safety of residents, we have reported it to the ministry so that it can be repaired immediately," he said.
The Kali Regoyo suspension bridge, which is 150 meters long, is an important route for residents of Sumberwuluh Village and Jugosari Village.
"Hopefully the PUPR Ministry can fix it soon," said the Deputy Regent.
Meanwhile, officials at the Mount Semeru observation post in Sawur Mountain reported that vibrations from Mount Semeru's cold lava flood were recorded twice each on Tuesday (7/2) and Wednesday (8/2).
