Incessantly Spreading Seeds, DKP Banned Residents To Release Predatory Fish Into Lakes Throughout Gunung Kidul

DIY - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (DKP) Gunung Kidul Regency appealed to the public not to release predatory fish into the lake.

"This needs to be done because predatory fish can threaten the development of other fish in the lake," said Head of DKP Gunung Kidul Krisna Berlian in Gunung Kidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sunday, February 5, as reported by Antara.

He said, currently there are suspicions that several lakes in this area have been entered by invasive fish or predatory fish.

"We hope that people don't just put fish into the lake. Predatory fish may not match their habitat and actually threaten other fish that already exist," said Krisna.

He said DKP Gunungkidul was trying to prevent predatory fish from growing in the lake.

He suspects that predatory fish circulation, one of which comes from predatory exotic fish breeders. The predatory fish are released into the lake because they are tired of caring for them.

DKP is trying to make the lake free from predatory fish, but it is not easy to catch these fish. In this case requires the support of many parties to be able to handle it.

"Communication with experts needs to be done for handling," he said.

Krisna said DKP Gunungkidul is intensively spreading fish seeds throughout the lake. This program is carried out as a conservation measure, and the fish can also be used for economic needs.

"We are continuing to develop fish seed centers for this program," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Calonejo Village, Suhadi, said that predatory fish were also suspected to have been in Telaga Jonge, Pacarejo Village. However, it is not known for sure the type of predatory fish.

In the lake there is already a ban on the public not to put their own fish into the lake. The fish seeds can only be distributed by the Gunungkidul DKP.

"Residents can use this lake for fishing. We urge the public not to release fish in the pond, especially predatory fish," he stated.
