KUDUS - Heavy rains have caused landslides in three villages in two sub-districts in Kudus Regency, Central Java.

According to the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Section of the Kudus Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Munaji, landslides on Wednesday (25/1) afternoon occurred in Menawan and Rahtawu Villages in Gebog District and Japan Village in Dawe District.

Landslides occurred at seven points in Rahtawu Village, three points in Menawan Village, and two points in Japan Village.

According to Munaji, the landslide occurred in a steep area with a slope of 80 to 90 degrees where the drainage channel was not smooth.

Under these conditions, the soil which is in unstable condition is unable to withstand high rainfall causing it to slide.

Landslides caused sections of village roads to be covered with avalanche material in the Villages of Rahtawu, Menawan, and Japan.

The Kudus BPBD team together with volunteers and the community worked together to clean up the landslide that had covered the road.

"The land that experienced the landslide was also covered with plastic to prevent further landslides," said Munaji as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 26.

At the end of December 2022, landslides occurred in Japan, Kajar, Soco, and Ternadi Villages in Dawe District and Menawan Village in Gebog District.

The natural disaster affected nine residents' houses, three houses in Dawe District and six houses in Gebog District.
