Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that efforts to mitigate wet hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides would remain a priority in 2023 in order to minimize the impact of disaster risks that might occur.

"Mitigation of wet hydrometeorological disasters is still a priority," said BNPB Acting Head of Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari.

Abdul Muhari explained that the government is still making efforts to control wet hydrometeorological disasters a priority because in Indonesia during the dry season, there is still the possibility of rain which has the potential to cause flooding.

Based on experience, in Indonesia floods and landslides can occur throughout the year, not only during the rainy season, because even in the dry season there is still the potential for rain even though the intensity is reduced.

"Preparedness and vigilance for the possibility of wet hydrometeorological disasters are still needed," he said.

He also added that currently BNPB has started to increase its preparedness for the dry season in anticipation of dry hydrometeorological disasters such as forest and land fires (karhutla). This is because in 2023, there is the potential for hot weather conditions to occur which could have an impact on drought and forest/land fire disasters.
