JAKARTA - Seven people died in mass shootings at two locations in the northern California city of Half Moon Bay, United States on Monday, with suspects later being taken into custody, officials said.

San Mateo Sheriff Christina Corpus said they received information of a shooting in San Mateo County at around 2:22 p.m. local time.

"Deputies responding to the call found four dead and a fifth injured at the first location in Half Moon Bay, then found three more dead elsewhere nearby, Sheriff Corpus said at a news conference."

At 4:40 p.m. local time, Sheriff Corpus said the suspect, a man aged around 67, was taken into custody without incident after being found in a parked vehicle. Officers also found a revolver in his vehicle.

"He acted alone and his motives are unknown," Corpus said, as quoted by CNN.

Corpus Sheriff said the suspect was "believed to be a worker" at one of the locations where people were shot. The suspect was identified as Zhao Chunli, a resident of Half Moon Bay

Asked what other information he could share about the suspect, he said:

"We can tell you that we know he is acting alone at this time. And we are working with the district attorney's office right now to interview the suspect. And as soon as we get further updates we will be able to provide them to you."

It said Zhao was currently in the custody of the San Mateo Sheriff's Office. It is not yet known when he will appear in court.

It is known, the latest mass shooting occurred just two days after the shooting that killed 11 people in the City of Monterey Park, Los Angeles County, about 400 miles (640 km) to the south of California.
