JAKARTA - The government is aggressively encouraging investment in the electric vehicle sector in the country. One of them is the plan to build an electric car factory. It is planned that the factory will be built in the Patimban area, Subang Regency, West Java.
"We plan to build an electric car factory in the area near Patimban (West Java)," said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at the 2020 Kaleidoscope: State Commitment to Build Infrastructure virtually, Tuesday, December 29.
As is known, the government is indeed intensively building infrastructure in this area. Apart from the factory, the government is also building a port in Patimban. Currently the port is operational, but not 100 percent finished.
This port is predicted to become the center of export and import traffic for automotive, especially cars, in West Java and Central Java. Patimban Port is one of the national strategic projects that are expected to stimulate regional development in the Subang area and reduce traffic in Jakarta.
Luhut did not specify when the construction of the electric vehicle factory in the Patimban area would begin. However, he emphasized that government policy in 2021 will be encouraged through strengthening digital infrastructure, as well as logistical efficiency and connectivity.
"One example of infrastructure development is the construction of the Patimban International Port, which has been inaugurated by the President," he said.
Previously, Luhut emphasized that Indonesia was developing a battery-based electric motorized vehicle (KBLBB) to reduce dependence on imports of fuel oil (BBM). One of the efforts is by planning to invest in an electric car manufacturer from the United States, Tesla.
"Tesla has also expressed a strong interest in investing in Indonesia. They will make a visit next year in January," said Luhut some time ago.
