Harvey Moeis: I Never Enjoy Rp300 Trillion Corruption Money

JAKARTA - The defendant Harvey Moeis as the extension of PT Refined Bangka Tin (RBT) admitted that he, his family, and other defendants in tin cases never had, saw, and even enjoyed corruption money worth IDR 300 trillion.

"That figure is 10 percent of our State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) maybe, so I ask for permission to clarify to the Indonesian people that we have never enjoyed such a large amount of money," said Harvey while reading the memorandum of defense (pleidoi) in a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 18.

Harvey feels odd about the expert calculation of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) related to state losses in cases of suspected tin corruption. Moreover, in the examination hearing some time ago, the expert who calculated the state's losses was unprofessional.

The unprofessional attitude, among others, is the testimony of experts which begins with the phrase indifference to illegal mining conditions in Bangka Belitung.

According to Harvey, experts are also lazy to answer when the defendant, legal advisers, the public, and the panel of judges want to dig up their statements at trial.

Likewise, he continued, when his party asked for the results of the expert calculations to be more researched. At that time the application was rejected rawally.

"It is very unethical for a professor", he said.

Therefore, until now, Harvey admits that he is still very confused as long as the calculation of state losses is IDR 300 trillion in tin cases.

He assessed that the auditors, prosecutors, and the Indonesian people had been infected by the expert.

"I'm sure the panel of judges won't be able to get experts," said Harvey.

In the case of alleged corruption in the management of tin commodity trading in the mining permit (IUP) area of PT Timah Tbk. in 2015 '2022, Harvey was required to be sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, provided that if the fine was not paid, it was replaced with imprisonment for 1 year.

In addition, Harvey is also required to be subject to additional penalties in the form of payment of replacement money amounting to Rp210 billion, subsidiary to imprisonment for 6 years.
