Restorative Justice, A Driver Who Stole Russian Tourist Luggage At Ngurah Rai Airport Freed

BADUNG - A freelance driver named Putu Agus Sucipto (40) was acquitted of the theft of a Russian foreigner's suitcase at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport through restorative justice.

The thieves took Venglovskala Ekaterina's luggage (40). The victim chooses to forgive the perpetrator.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Iptu Rionson Ritonga Polres I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, said that through mediation both parties, both the perpetrator, the victim, and their lawyer agreed to resolve the theft case through restorative justice.

Prior to resolving cases through restorative justice, the perpetrators and victims had already gone through discussions to settle cases peacefully.

"We (investigators) are only facilitating. Both parties have agreed to resolve the case through RJ," he said, Tuesday, January 17.

The perpetrator of Putu Agus has regretted and felt guilty for what he had done and promised not to do it again. The perpetrator is also willing to provide compensation to the victim.

"From the delivery of the perpetrator, the victim also agreed to forgive the perpetrator and he also did not want to prolong this problem any longer after that both parties signed the minutes and shook hands," he said.

The incident started when the victim lost her luggage or suitcase containing a number of clothes on Sunday (15/1) around 01.40 WITA. At that time, the victim had just landed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, and through the International Arrivals Terminal. Then, the victim found out that his suitcase was missing after arriving at Villa Timang, Jimbaran, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, or where he was staying.

On Monday (16/1) at around 11.00 WITA, the victim reported it to the Police in the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport area, Bali.

"Through a series of investigations and also in collaboration with Angkasa Pura avsec, while analyzing CCTV, finally the perpetrator was detected, who was a freelance driver, and that same day the perpetrator was arrested," he said.
