JAKARTA - A man has been detained by police after he was seen throwing eggs at King Charles III and Empress Camilla, as they strolled through York.

Several police officers were seen holding the suspect on the ground behind a temporary fence built at Micklegate Bar, following the King's visit on Wednesday.

King Charles III and Camilla were being greeted in York by city leaders, when a protester apparently threw three eggs at them, all of which missed, before the pair were ushered away, reports The Guardian November 9.

The man can be heard sneering at the nobles, as he throws eggs and shouts "this country is built on the blood of slaves" and "not my king", as soon as he is arrested by about four policemen.

One of the eggs appeared to be fended off by York Sheriff Suzie Mercer, who was part of the entourage of officials welcoming the king.

Some in the crowd later chanted "God save the king", while others shouted "shame" at the protesters.

As police arrested the man, King Charles III seemed unfazed and continued to greet the crowd.

He took part in a traditional ceremony, in which the ruler was formally welcomed into York by the mayor through the gates to the city.

King Charles III and the Empress visited Yorkshire on Wednesday for a number of meetings. One of them attended the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, the first to be installed since her death.

It is known, eggs were also thrown into Queen Elizabeth II's royal car in 2022 when she visited Nottingham, England, as quoted by Reuters. Long before that, anti-British protesters threw eggs at Charles while strolling through Dublin in 1995.
