SUMUT - Tebing Tinggi Police has raised the status of violence against children with perpetrator TS (58) against RMS (17) to the level of investigation.

"The Tebing Tinggi Police have carried out a case of violence against children, to be raised to the level of investigation," said the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Tebing Tinggi Police, AKP Rudianto Silalahi, in a written statement, as quoted from Antara, Thursday, November 3.

He said the violent incident occurred in January 2018. At that time, RMS, who is a resident of Sibolga City, North Sumatra, went to the house of TS, who is the victim's aunt.

RMS's mother is known to have died and her father has remarried. Meanwhile, TS's residence is in Tebing Tinggi.

"When the victim arrived at TS's house, she then asked TS to contact her aunt in Bandar Khalipah, Deli Serdang Regency. But TS said that her aunt in Bandar Khalipah didn't want to accommodate the victim," he said.

He said that after that TS offered to let RMS stay at her house.

In the house, said Rudianto, usually the victim works mopping, cleaning merchandise, lifting goods, and serving buyers in the shop owned by TS.

"Meanwhile, in January 2022, the reported [TS] accused the victim of stealing IDR 300,000 of money. But the victim did not admit it, thus making the reported angry and ordered RMS to go up to the second floor of TS's house by locking the 'rolling door' made of iron," he said.

Rudianto added that the room where RMS was confined consisted of two bedrooms, one bathroom, sofa, television, windows equipped with iron bars, and an iron rolling door that separated the room.

In July 2022, RMS (the victim) was sitting in a window and communicating with a PJKA officer. The victim said a lot of trouble. A month later she wrote a letter to the PJKA officer.

"The act of violence against minors violates Article 778 and Article 80 paragraph 1 of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning the Stipulation of Perppu Number 01 of 2016 concerning the second amendment of Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection into Law," said Rudianto.
