Vice President: Transferring Analog To Digital TV Broadcasts Should Not Be Delayed Anymore, Must Be Implemented 2 November

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the transfer of analog television broadcasts to digital television did not need to be postponed and had to be implemented.

"Everywhere I think it should be, it's been a long time, I don't think it should be postponed any longer. It must be implemented," said the Vice President after attending the commemoration of the 2022 National Santri Day in Depok, West Java, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 31.

For information, the government requires all analog television broadcasts to migrate to digital television no later than November 2, 2022.

Ma'ruf Amin said this was an order from the law. According to him, the government through the Ministry of Communication and Information has made preparations.

"For a long time I thought it was advertised everywhere," he said.

Previously, the Special Staff of the Minister of Communication and Information, Rosarita Niken Widiastuti, stated that there were a number of important reasons why we should switch to digital terrestrial television broadcasting.

"November 2 is the start of implementing the analog switch-off (ASO). The Job Creation Act mandates the transition period from television broadcasting from analog to digital is two years," said Niken.

The first reason Indonesia has to switch to digital broadcasting is so that the public can get quality broadcasts, because digital broadcasts offer a cleaner and clearer picture and sound than analog broadcasts.

The second reason, digital broadcasting is efficient in the use of the frequency spectrum.

The next reason is that the efficiency of digital broadcasting will give digital dividends in the radio frequency spectrum.

Furthermore, with digital broadcasting, the cost of making television stations is cheaper and is expected to open up opportunities for growth in content creation.

Lastly, migration to digital broadcasting is necessary to avoid disputes with neighboring countries due to frequency spectrum interference in border areas.
