Pollution Causes 4.1 Percent Of Global Deaths

JAKARTA - Senior researcher of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Agus Sudaryanto said 4.1 percent of the world's deaths were caused by air pollution.

"Pollution is one of the contributors to death, where 4.1 percent of global deaths are contributed by indoor pollution. In Indonesia alone, 40.95 percent of deaths out of 100,000 people are caused by pollution," Agus said in a seminar and product knowledge entitled "NCCO Technology, The Most Innovative and Sustainable Technology Solution for Purifying Indoor Air Pollutants Today” in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 19.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Ministry of Environment and Forestry) Anton Purnomo revealed that from a number of areas in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), the air quality in South Jakarta (South Jakarta) and Depok was recorded to be worse than in North Jakarta (Jakut).

"Probably because the Jakut Region is located close to the sea so that the pollution decomposes into the sea. This affects the air quality index in an area," said Anton.

Data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that 40 percent of the time in a day is spent indoors, namely homes, offices, schools, vehicles, supermarkets, cafes, or restaurants.

Several studies have shown that the air quality in inhaled space is not completely free from contamination and pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, dust, and even other chemical exposures.

"Therefore, we need to understand how the dangers, causes, and solutions to improve indoor air quality are good for health," said PT RHT Technology Indonesia's President Director, Sianty Devi.

Gas pollutants in the room or commonly called TVOC, total Volatile Organic Compound can be produced continuously from room cleaning fluids, addictive substances found in furniture, carpets, wallpapers, and even electronic equipment in the house. All these gaseous pollutants can be purified by NCCO technology.
