Responding To Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Secretary General Of The United Nations To Attend The G20 Summit In Bali

JAKARTA - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is rumored to be attending the G20 Summit which will be held in Bali, next November.

This was confirmed when Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with the Secretary General of the United Nations on the sidelines of the High-Level Week agenda for the 77th UN General Assembly in New York, United States.

"The Indonesian Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for the confirmation of the presence of the UN Secretary-General at the G20 Summit later. Foreign Minister Retno also conveyed the importance of the G20 Summit to produce concrete cooperation that is beneficial for the world," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Monday, September 19.

"The Indonesian Foreign Minister explained about the preparations for the G20 Summit in Bali from 15-16 November 2022," continued the ministry.

On the occasion, the Indonesian Foreign Minister and the Secretary-General of the United Nations also discussed various global issues that were of common concern. In addition, the Indonesian Foreign Minister also exchanged ideas about Myanmar's development. Both have the same concern and disappointment towards the Myanmar Military Junta which did not show a commitment to the 5 Points of Consensus (5PC) that ASEAN Leaders had mandated in April 2021.

"The Secretary General of the United Nations has reiterated his support for the 5PC ASEAN. Indonesia's communication and coordination with the United Nations will be more intensive considering that Indonesia will become Chair of ASEAN in 2023," wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is known that the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly was opened on September 13, 2022. High Level Week (HLW) will take place from September 20-26 2022 at the UN headquarters in New York, United States.

This year's HLW theme is "A watersed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges".
