JAKARTA - The issue raised by the Chairman of the Bappilu Democratic Party Andi Arief regarding efforts to thwart a coalition that wants to eradicate DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has been highlighted by various parties. One of them, Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party Habiburokhman. Habiburokhman then asked Andi Arief to clearly reveal this issue so as not to cause wild speculation. "Mr. Andi Arief should explain the issue, in what way will people thwart Anies' candidacy. If political parties do not nominate, that is their own right, it cannot be called thwarting," said Habiburokhman in a written statement, Monday, August 29. The member of Commission III of the DPR then explained the rules regarding the presidential threshold or the 20 percent Presidential Threshold for the 2024 presidential election. According to Habiburokhman, the rules that have been in effect since the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) administration cannot be called part of Anies' attempted burglary. "The PT 20 percent provisions have been in effect since the time of Mr. SBY, the president in 2009, it has been a long time," he said. Habiburokhman also reminded that if there are figures who want to run for themselves, they must realize that they must communicate with political parties and form a coalition. "Therefore, everyone who wants to run for office is aware that they must enter a political party, all out looking for as many legislative votes as possible, then establish communication with other parties to form a nomination coalition. If you don't do that, it's not wise to blame other people for not being nominated," explained Habiburokhman. Even so, Habiburokhman said, there is still plenty of time for figures who want to take part in the 2024 presidential election to seek the support of political parties. He invited the figure to run a healthy democracy. "There is still plenty of time for all figures to seek the support of political parties. Let's run this democracy by avoiding slander," he said. Previously, the Chairman of the Bappilu Democratic Party Andi Arief admitted that he heard that there was an attempt to thwart Anies Baswedan's candidacy for Presidential candidate in the 2024 General Election. The effort was carried out by buying the coalition that intended to carry Anies. However, Andi did not divulge which party wanted to thwart Anies. "I heard that (the attempt to prevent Anies from becoming a presidential candidate, ed)," said Andi, Sunday, August 28. In a tweet that has been shared on his Twitter account, Andi said the 2024 presidential election would not run fairly if President Joko Widodo interfered in determining the coalition and the presidential election. "The 2024 presidential election is almost certain that the process and the results are unfair as long as President Jokowi joins forces. People in power can do anything, and can be scary," he said.
