746,243 Cows Already Vaccinated With PMK

JAKARTA - The Task Force for Handling Foot and Mouth Diseases (Satgas PMK) reported that 746,243 cows had received the PMK vaccine.

Based on the report from the Task Force quoted by ANTARA, no livestock other than cattle have received the PMK vaccination injection. The FMD transmission occurred in 22 provinces and spread to 273 districts/cities throughout Indonesia.

The PMK Task Force reported that 438,315 animals were affected by FMD since May 5 until today, consisting of 421,316 cows, 12,241 buffalo, 1,589 sheep, 3,122 goats, and 47 pigs. buffalo, 992 sheep, 1,694 goats, and 16 pigs.

Meanwhile, 201,442 animals have not recovered, consisting of 193,447 cows, 6,023 buffalo, 580 sheep, 1,361 goats and 31 pigs.

There were also livestock that died due to the FMD outbreak as many as 4,233 animals consisting of 4,135 cows, 78 buffalo, 9 sheep, and 11 goats.

A number of government efforts to reduce the number of FMD transmission apart from vaccination include limiting animal movement, monitoring traffic and implementing surveillance, prohibiting the importation of livestock from other areas.

Then strict quarantine, good maintenance management, improving sanitation, disinfecting the cage and its surroundings regularly.

The Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases (Satgas PMK) asked the authorities to tighten and discipline those who take advantage of the FMD outbreak situation in livestock.

"We ask the PMK Control Task Force in the regions, Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas to always tighten supervision and control those who take personal advantage of this PMK outbreak situation," said the Coordinator of the Expert Team for the PMK Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito.

Wiku appealed to the PMK Task Force and related officers to implement strict biosecurity security measures, also when on duty in livestock areas.

In addition, Wiku reminded that there should not be parties who deliberately take personal advantage by taking advantage of the ignorance of the breeders, and scaring the farmers, then buying their livestock at low prices.
