KEPRI - The Director General of Population of the Ministry of Home Affairs has corrected the list of names of sustainable voters for the Riau Islands Province (Kepri). There were about 5,000 names on the corrected list.

Riau Islands KPU member Priyo Handoko said the Riau Islands KPU had been tracing the list of findings from the Director General of Population since last week.

"There are those who have died, changed addresses, anomaly voters, and others. These include the findings of the Director General of Population", he said in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 18.

The report from the Director General of Population is based on data from the Riau Islands KPU, sourced from the Kepri regency and city population offices, then matched with sustainable voter data.

The number of sustainable voters in Riau Islands submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in early July 2022 reached 1.1 million people.

Some voters in Riau Islands are domiciled in Batam. Therefore, most of the continuous voter data that needs to be improved are mostly in Batam.

From the results of searches by district and city KPU officers, various cases were found, such as the population identification number (NIK) belonging to someone who had died, an incorrect NIK, and residents who moved house.

Some people have died and are still registered as voters, but the numbers are not significant. Then there are also retired Indonesian Army (TNI) and National Police who have not been registered as voters, as well as residents who have not met the requirements as voters because they are members of the TNI and National Police.

"From our search results, we found numbers on the NIK that still need to be corrected", he said.

Priyo said that the number of continuous voter lists that needed to be improved was relatively small because officers had continuously updated voter data from May 2021 until now.

"The voter data collection process is still long, so we can confirm that the percentage of errors is very small", he concluded.
