JAKARTA - The Head of the Thousand Islands Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-Department, Puji Astuti, said that the Thousand Islands Regency Government would add a Digital Nomad Island (DNI) location or facility to work while traveling.

In addition to the two islands that have already taken place, Puji said, DNI will also be served on Tidung Island and Kelapa Island. Possibly, DNI in Tidung Island and Kelapa Island will be opened next year.

"So far, the DNI program has been implemented on Bidadari Island and Untung Jawa Island. Later, it will be developed for all islands in parallel. Shortly, we will open Tidung Island and Kelapa Island", Puji told VOI, Tuesday, July 12.

Puji said that the majority of inhabited islands were deliberately chosen by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government as the location for Digital Nomad Island. Because, in addition to facilitating tourists who work while recreational, DNI is also beneficial for residents.

"For DNI, we focus more on resident islands to be developed. Because this is a tourism destination in the Thousand Islands, in addition to increasing visits, it is also to improve the economy of the local community", said Puji.

In developing the DNI program, the DKI Provincial Government does not specifically budget for it through the Regional Budget (APBD). Supporting facilities such as easy access to transportation, smooth internet network, provision of Wi-Fi, accommodation, and provision of electricity equality are carried out collaboratively.

"In terms of budget, we don't have a specific budget, because this is a collaboration between several SKPDs, such as Tourism and Creative Economy with the Ministry of Communication and Information to increase internet network bandwidth and install JakWifi, related to electricity consumption as well as with PLN (State Electricity Company)", she explained.

For information, the launch of the DNI program coincided with the opening of the 495th Jakarta Celebration by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan on Bidadari Island, Thousand Islands on Tuesday, May 24.

Anies said that the Thousand Islands had a large enough opportunity for the application of the digital nomad concept, namely working from a moving location by utilizing technology.

"We want Jakarta to become a world city and we hope that new patterns of work can be facilitated. Usually, digital nomads are new entities. This is unique. They work but are not limited to location. We want them to have high productivity and high mobility so that they can take advantage of the Thousand Islands", said Anies in the Thousand Islands, Tuesday, May 24.

In facilitating digital nomad activities, Anies said the DKI Provincial Government continues to accelerate the needs of digital nomad users in their activities and regional development.

These include providing fast internet access, access to safe and comfortable transportation, providing certainty of access to housing, ensuring basic needs such as clean water, food, and electricity are available, to ensuring adequate working facilities.

Thus, it has great potential to develop a digital ecosystem. Access to digital infrastructure in Jakarta is very adequate compared to other regions in Indonesia with more than 9,000 free WiFi access points for all through the JakWifi program.

"On the other hand, Jakarta has tremendous potential in the tourism sector and the archipelagic region, which can still be developed specifically to become global class tourism, by bringing the digital nomad concept", Anies explained.
