Jakarta - The government has started directing additional research budgets of around Rp4 trillion for research that has a direct impact on solving national problems.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the additional budget was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's instructions which had previously been conveyed in a meeting at the Palace.
"Mr. President has given instructions to increase the research budget to around Rp. 4 trillion," said Prasetyo after closing the National Sarasehan of the 2026 Science, Technology, and Industry Convention at the JICC, Jakarta, Sunday (28/6).
According to Prasetyo, the government then drafted the direction for the use of the funds together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Bappenas, and BRIN.
He emphasized that government-funded research is no longer only oriented towards scientific publications, but must be able to produce solutions that can be applied.
Several priority areas include waste management, energy development, and research on the conversion of LPG to compressed natural gas (CNG).
"These researches are expected to immediately have an impact in solving the problems we face," he said.
Prasetyo said that all research agendas are now also compiled in one national road map so that there is no overlap and the results are more effective in supporting development.
