Tantowi Yahya Calls Jokowi's Trip To Ukraine A Crazy Mission

JAKARTA - President Jokowi is still on his way from Poland to Russia. However, Jokowi's arrival in Ukraine invites praise.

The Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, Samoa and the Kingdom of Tonga, Tantowi Yahya, praised Jokowi for his courage in coming to the battlefield. He even considered Jokowi's trip a crazy mission.

"President Jokowi's trip to Russia and Ukraine is a crazy mission," said Tantowi through his Instagram account, Thursday, June 30.

"Where is anyone, let alone a Head of State who dares to travel in the midst of a war that is raging. Big risks always await, no matter how great the calculations and as neat as any preparations are," he continued.

"But President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana dared to do it. Together with their entourage, they took the train from Poland to Ukraine through the threat of danger," continued Tantowi again.

Tantowi said, Jokowi was using his bargaining power as president of a big country. Including from his influence as Chair of the G20 to stop the ongoing war.

"Many people sneer but more praise, including from abroad," said Tantowi.

"Jokowi and Indonesia are considered friends by Russia and Ukraine and are therefore allowed to visit. Jokowi is considered a sincere leader by the world and therefore his peaceful mission is supported," he said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) continued his working visit to the European continent by flying to Russia, to meet President Vladimir Putin, part of a peacekeeping mission amid the country's war with Ukraine.

After traveling by Extraordinary Train (KLB) for 11 hours, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana arrived at Przemysl Glowny Station in the city of Przemysl, Poland, Thursday, June 30, 2022 at around 06.30 local time.

"From the station, the President and Mrs. Iriana and their entourage went straight to Rzeszow-Jasionka International Airport, Poland and immediately headed to Vnukovo II Airport in Moscow, Russia by using the Garuda Indonesia GIA-1 aircraft at around 09.00 local time," quoting the President's website. "This afternoon, on the fifth day of his working visit abroad, President Jokowi is scheduled to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin," the website continued.
