FMD In Bogor Significantly Increases To 40 Cases

BOGOR - Cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) rose significantly in Bogor, West Java. It was recorded that the FMD at the Bubulak abattoir (RPH) had spread from seven to 40.

Head of the Integrated RPH Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Bogor City Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP), Didong Suherbi, said dozens of cows indicated for FMD were still under investigation.

"Indeed, there are already 40 individuals, but it is only indicated because the symptoms are almost the same as FMD. It has been handled and the lab results have not mentioned FMD", he said when confirmed, Friday, June 17.

Didong said that the seven cows that tested positive for FMD had recovered and were in the process of recovering, indicating that the symptoms they experienced were not severe.

Likewise, he continued, dozens of other cows who are now showing symptoms similar to FMD are not serious.

Moreover, the separation of sick cows suspected of having FMD has also been carried out since the findings on seven positive cows, according to the DKPP announcement on Tuesday, June 7th.

Then on Thursday, June 16, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bogor City, said Didong, had helped spray disinfectant.

Several veterinarians from the Bogor City Health Office also continued to go around checking the health of cows, goats, and sheep in Bubulak RPH and other places.

"So it needs to be conveyed to the public, the handling of FMD in RPH is strict. Animals in RPH are safe and FMD is not dangerous to humans", he said.

According to Didong, the intercept points of animal-carrying cars at five border points in collaboration with the Transportation Service and the Bogor City Police also continue to monitor the traffic and distribution of cattle, goats, and sheep.

"Supervision is also continuously carried out. Animal cars are not easy to enter and leave now. You must really show a certificate stating the animal is healthy", he concluded.
