JAKARTA - Russian authorities said they were ready to provide assistance and consultation to combat the monkeypox outbreak to stop the spread, including to member countries of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Europe.

The Federal Service for Supervision of the Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare is ready to provide practical advice and assistance in combating the spread of monkeypox to countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the WHO European Region, the agency's press service said Thursday.

"The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing has received requests from the EAEU countries and the WHO Europe Region, for consultation and practical assistance in countering the spread of the monkeypox virus", the statement said.

"That includes the use of the Russian test system. If necessary, partners will receive appropriate assistance", the statement continued.

Previously, the agency presented the results of scientific research on combating the spread of the disease, at an international conference organized by WHO.

Epidemiologists and virologists review the general epidemiology of monkeypox, including the current outbreak, its diagnostics, and recommendations for laboratory testing for the presence of the virus.

"The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing presented to the international community the results of the scientific development of modern diagnostic tools for monkeypox and other orthopoxviruses that are pathogenic to humans", the agency's press service said.

"The system shown helps to detect diseases and distinguish them from similar infections quickly and with high precision. Russian research is causing great interest", continued the press service.

The sanitary inspector emphasized that the solutions of Russian virologists and epidemiologists are currently in demand on the premises of specialized international organizations. The agency's researchers and specialists continue to interact actively with WHO and EAEU countries, in preventing and responding to new epidemiological threats, including monkeypox, notes the press service.

Earlier, the agency's press service noted that Russia had no monkeypox infection. It is known, that the sanitary inspector took the necessary steps to prevent the import of the infection and reduce the possibility of its spread in Russia.

To note, Russia received a series of sanctions from various countries and organizations related to its invasion of Ukraine, including from European countries that joined the European Union.

Most recently, earlier this week the alliance agreed to embargo up to 90 percent of oil imports from Russia. Instead of being afraid, Russia's Permanent Representative for international organizations in Vienna, Austria Mikhail Ulyanov said Russia would look for other importers related to the sixth package of EU sanctions against Moscow.
