Bintang Beer Producers Target To Use 100 Percent Of Renewable Energy And Create A Positive Environment For Consumers

JAKARTA - PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk, a producer of Bintang and Heineken drinks in Indonesia, announced steps and developments in an effort to become a leading company in the aspect of sustainability in Indonesia through the launch of the 2019 Sustainability Report.

The company, codenamed MLBI, stated that currently, half of the energy they use comes from renewable energy sources.

"The company has a target of achieving 100 percent renewable energy use by 2025 as an effort to reduce its carbon footprint," said Ika Noviera, Director of Corporate Affairs for Multi Bintang Indonesia in a written statement, Monday, October 19.

As the oldest brewer in Indonesia, said Ika, Multi Bintang has learned to develop in ever-changing environmental conditions and climate change. He said, Multi BIntang is committed to continuing to contribute to creating a brighter and more sustainable future for people and the planet.

"For nine decades, we have formulated and served Bintang Beer, the most iconic beer brand in Indonesia. We are committed to always serving the best quality products for consumers, by always placing this earth and the people in it at the center of our company," said Ika.

With the theme " Brewing a Limitless Tomorrow ", the 2019 Sustainability Report describes how the company integrates all business activities and collaborates with key stakeholders in various initiatives.

The report highlights Multi Bintang's progress and achievements related to important focus areas that support the company's efforts to develop a sustainable value chain as a whole.

Some of Multi Bintang's efforts in terms of reducing carbon emissions include accelerating the use of 100 percent renewable energy in the production process, achieving 97.34 percent of returned and reused packaging (used bottles, cans and barrels), and 98 percent of recycled byproducts. grain, sludge, and rice husk ash).

Apart from that, Multi Bintang also protects water resources. Through the Watershed-Based Integrated Restoration Management program with the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation, Multi Bintang wants to protect and restore the Cisadane watershed to achieve the 100 percent water recovery target.

"Through reforestation efforts, we have returned 35 million liters of water to nature every year, or the equivalent of water consumption of 350,000 people per day," he said.

Launch of a three-year program for water resource recovery called " River2River Journey ", with the aim of increasing public awareness about the degradation of water resources due to domestic waste.

Multi Bintang also launched the "Sungai Watch" program in Bali in collaboration with Make a Change World, to promote a culture of responsible waste management in tourism areas with the aim of preventing waste from polluting rivers and oceans.

This was also followed by an increase in the number of waste banks from 238 units in 2018 to 273 units as of December 2019, which are spread across 18 regions in Mojokerto Regency, East Java and Tangerang City, Banten.

"We engage customers, such as bars and restaurants, to support responsible consumption by providing training to partner outlets and their employees," said Ika.

Simultaneously, Multi Bintang also offers consumers a wider choice of alcohol-free drinks. The company was also honored to receive the 2019 Sustainable Business Awards, under the Special Recognition on Workforce category.

The award is a symbol of recognition for Multi Bintang's contribution in supporting an inclusive culture and diversity within the company.
