JAKARTA - Chairman of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, felt betrayed by the ratification of the Job Creation Act even though he was part of the Omnibus Law drafting team.

This is because a number of articles deemed to be detrimental to workers are still contained in the Omnibus Law of the Job Creation Act. Several articles amending the provisions of Law Number 13 Year 2003 concerning manpower have not been returned to the old regulations.

"Even if we were part of the drafting team, we feel betrayed. Some articles which he said returned to Law Number 13 Year 2003 were not successfully included, they were even left the same as the government's draft," Said Iqbal in a virtual discussion, Monday, October 12.

According to him, there are four points of rules in the Job Creation Law that are not in accordance with the drafting team's agreement. Among them are issues regarding minimum wages, on the status of employee contracts, guarantees of job loss, and reduced severance pay.

Said Iqbal is also disappointed with the government's narrative which states that the issue of loss of workers' rights in the Job Creation Law circulating in the community is hoax or disinformation.

In fact, according to him, the issue is true and has been verified by the workers. "The four examples of issues are not hoaxes. The sources are validated from the agreement of the DPR Legislation Body working committee and the government, then the news that we directly verify," said Said Iqbal.

Therefore, a number of labor unions that are members of the National Welfare Movement (Gekanas) such as KSPI, KSPSI, FSP LEM SPSI, and several other unions will again hold demonstrations against the Job Creation Law.

"The 32 confederations of labor unions will continue their actions again that are measured and directed in accordance with the constitution. With this, I declare that labor actions should not lead to violence, should not cause riots," said Said Iqbal.

Apart from the action, the labor union is also considering the option to reject the Job Creation Law through the constitution by submitting a judicial review (JR) to the Constitutional Court.
