Ramadan 2022: UAE Charity Donates IDR 78 Billion For One Billion Food Campaign

JAKARTA - The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charitable Agency in the United Arab Emirates, has donated 20 million dirhams, or around IDR 78.250.201.140, for the One Billion Foods campaign, the Wam news agency reported on Sunday.

Announced last month, the 'One Billion Meals' program encourages people to donate money to feed the needy. This will run until the target is met.

The campaign aims to help the vulnerable in 50 countries, supporting efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 to end hunger by 2030.

The One Billion Foods initiative is an extension of the 100 Million Foods campaign, launched during Ramadan 2021. At that time, the program managed to distribute 220 million meals in 47 countries, double its initial target, with the participation of the MBRCH team.

During Ramadan 2020, the 10 Million Foods campaign supports communities affected by COVID-19 across the United Arab Emirates.

Last year's 100 Million Foods campaign delivered food packages and vouchers to millions of people on four continents, including Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Tunisia, Iraq, Egypt, Kosovo, Brazil, Benin, Burundi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Angola, Sierra Leone, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative, the total was achieved thanks to the generosity of 185.000 donors, from within and outside the United Arab Emirates.

On Sunday, April 3, the Emirates Red Crescent distributed hundreds of tonnes of Ramadan rations in Yemen. Around seven million people will benefit from the fundraising and iftar programs in Shabwa, Hadramaut, Taiz, Hodeidah and Socotra.

Meanwhile, a Sharjah charity distributed 30,000 meals to people fasting in the emirate on the first day of the holy month.

How to donate? The One Billion Meals campaign website has a breakdown of several options for donors. Money can be pledged online, either monthly or with a one-time donation. People can donate via SMS message via Etisalat or du or money can be sent via bank transfer.
