KPK Deposits IDR72 Billion And Thousands Of US Dollars Proof Of Edhy Prabowo's Bribery Case To The State

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has deposited looted money from the bribery case for the export of lobster seeds that ensnared former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo. This deposit is an effort to recover assets or asset recovery.

"KPK Executing Prosecutor Hendra Apriansyah through the Finance Bureau has deposited looted money into the state treasury from evidence in the case of convict Edhy Prabowo," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Sector Ali Fikri in a written statement, Friday, April 8.

The money from the evidence deposited amounted to IDR 72 billion and USD 2.700. Ali said this deposit was based on the demands of the KPK prosecutor and the court's decision.

In the future, the KPK ensures that it will continue to confiscate the proceeds of corruption as a deterrent effect. Ali said that money originating from criminal acts and money laundering crimes handled by his institution would be deposited into the state treasury.

As previously reported, Edhy Prabowo is now in Tangerang Class I Lapas to serve his five-year sentence.

In addition, as a convict, the former Gerindra Party politician is required to pay a fine of IDR 400 million with the condition that if he is not paid, he will be replaced with a prison term of six months.

Then, the former Gerindra Party politician is also required to pay replacement money of IDR 9.6 billion and USD 77 thousand, taking into account the returns that have been made. If he cannot pay, then the property will be confiscated.

After being released, Edhy will also carry out an additional sentence in the form of revocation of the right to be elected in public office for two years.

For information, the Supreme Court reduced Edhy Prabowo's sentence from 9 years to 5 years in prison. In its consideration, the cassation panel said the former minister had done a good job.

This decision was approved by the assembly consisting of Sofyan Sitompul, Gazalba Saleh, and Sinintha Yuliansih Sibarani on March 7.

As for the intention to work well during his tenure, Edhy revoked the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 56/PERMEN-KP/2016 dated December 23, 2016, and replaced it with the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 12/PERMEN-KP/2020 which aims to utilize lobster seeds.
