BMKG Recorded 67 Earthquakes Occurred In Maluku Over The Week

AMBON - A total of 67 earthquakes occurred in the Maluku region from March 18 to 24, 2022. This figure is a record of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Geophysics Station Class 1 Ambon.

Seismicity in the Maluku and surrounding areas during the week of 18-24 March 2022 was 67 earthquakes, which were dominated by small earthquakes (M<5).

He said an earthquake with a magnitude (M < 5) occurred on Seram Island and in the eastern region of Ambon Island. "Of the 67 earthquakes, four were felt", said Head of the Ambon Class I Geophysics Station, Herlambang Hudha, Friday, March 25.

Herlambang admitted that in the eastern region of Ambon Island there was an active shallow cluster earthquake. "There is an active shallow cluster earthquake in the area, so it has become a concern for the local government", he said, as reported by Antara.

The BMKG appealed that in the event of an earthquake, the public was asked to remain calm, alert, and not to be provoked by irresponsible issues.

The public is also advised to avoid cracked or damaged buildings caused by the earthquake.

"Check and make sure the residential building is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before returning to the house", he said.

In the event of an earthquake, the public should remain calm, be alert and follow the directions of the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as well as information from the BMKG.
