JAKARTA - The President Director of Persahabatan Hospital, Agus Dwi Susanto, said that the majority of COVID-19 patients being treated at the Persahabatan Hospital have not been vaccinated.

"As of January 1 to February 16, 2022, most of those being treated at Persahabatan Hospital, namely as many as 216 have not been vaccinated", Agus Dwi Susanto said in a press conference quoted by Antara on Wednesday, February 16.

He said that during that period the Persahabatan Hospital treated 367 COVID-19 patients. Of that number, 16 patients received the first dose of vaccine, 117 people received two doses, and 18 people received the booster dose.

"It is important to convey to the public that vaccination is very important during this pandemic. Even though those who have been vaccinated still have risks, the proportion is smaller and the symptoms are mild", he said.

Agus said people who had not been vaccinated against COVID-19 tended to experience mild, moderate to critical symptoms.

"So if he has been vaccinated, the risk of getting COVID-19 becomes lighter, but if he has not been vaccinated, he can get COVID-19 with mild, moderate, or even severe symptoms to critical", he explained.

Currently, Persahabatan Hospital is still treating as many as 70 COVID-19 patients, while the remaining 297 people have returned home.

According to Agus, the majority of patients who had been treated were exposed to the Omicron variant, which was 190 patients. While the non-Omicron patients were 59 patients, and the variant type was unknown for 118 patients.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that patients who have comorbidities and have not received complete vaccinations are the biggest victims of COVID-19.

According to her, the government continues to fight hard to prevent more victims from occurring, one of which is by encouraging vaccination.

"Vaccination, especially for the elderly, people who have comorbidities, and children must be accelerated and expanded", she stressed.

Nadia said that vaccination was scientifically proven to reduce the risk of illness and death from being infected with COVID-19.
