Minister Of Transportation: AH Nasution Airport Develops Mandailing Natal Economy

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the presence of General Abdul Haris (AH) Nasution Airport would develop and increase the economic potential of Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province.

"Large General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport will develop and increase the economic potential of Mandailing Natal Regency, especially in the mining sector, plantations such as rubber and palm oil, as well as agriculture, one of which is rice," said Minister of Transportation Budi while visiting Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport, in Mandailing Natal, Saturday.

According to the Minister of Transportation, Mandailing Natal Regency, which is also known for its diversity of customs, history and culture, and natural charm, will attract local and foreign tourists.

Therefore, the presence of Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport will be very helpful in developing the economic potential of Mandailing Natal Regency as a support for transportation.

"With this airport, hopefully the potential of North Sumatra, especially Mandailing Natal Regency, will be further explored," said the Minister of Transportation in a statement in Jakarta.

The Ministry of Transportation began building Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport in 2020 with a budget of IDR 434.5 billion. The airport with a runway of 1,450 m x 30 m, a taxiway of 75 m x 15 m, an apron of 105 m x 65 m, and a terminal building covering an area of 2,537 square meters, can later serve ATR 72 aircraft.

Budi further said that the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) Wings Air (Lion Group) team on April 1, 2024, had conducted a survey regarding the readiness of facilities at Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport.

The plan, added Minister of Transportation Budi, is that Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport will serve flights to Medan, Padang, and Pekanbaru so that it can cut land travel time which usually takes 5-10 hours.

The design of the terminal building of Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport was inspired by the Bagas Godang Traditional House, which is a traditional traditional house for the Mandailing Tribe.

"Alhamdulillah, the construction of Great General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport has been completed. After it is inaugurated, this airport will operate with the routes that have been prepared," said the Minister of Transportation.
