JAKARTA - Proton, an automotive brand from Malaysia, confirmed that it will expand the electrification market by presenting its first Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) next year or almost coincided with its first electric car (EV).

Reporting from Paultan, Saturday, May 4, it is likely that the model will take the basis and technology from the existing Geely model, including the Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder 1.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine combined with the NordThor BHE15 Plus system.

Combined with electric motors and three acceleration DHT transmissions, it can generate up to 390 ps of power and 535 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the battery is adjusted to a certain variant offering a pure reach of up to 90 km.

The system is paired in a number of Geely models in China, including the Galaxy L7. The car is built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

Proton has another choice in owning its first PHEV vehicle, such as taking a base from Galaxy L6 which is a sedan. Different from L7, the model displays a number of features and more premium technology.

Another alternative option that Proton has is that the manufacturer offers a 1.5 liter turbo 3-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. In theory, this can fit into existing models combined with a dual-clutch seven acceleration transmission.

Currently, Proton is under the auspices of Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group Co Ltd since 2017. Thus, brands from this neighboring country are under the umbrella of the same company as Volvo, Pilestar, Lotus, and Smart.

Geely has presented many PHEV cars, one of which is in the Hi-P sub-brand. So far, the PHEV models offered are Emgrand L and Xingyue L, the last of which are also available in remote versions with pure electric range of up to 205 km.
