JAKARTA - The discourse of postponing the 2024 General Election has resurfaced after the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that businessmen wanted the 5-year democratic party to be postponed for reasons of economic recovery.

Apart from violating the 1945 Constitution which regulates the term of office of the President, the Researcher of the Initiative Code, Muhammad Ihsan Maulana, believes that the postponement of the 2024 General Election will disrupt political stability. "Political dynamics will definitely be disrupted," said Ihsan, Sunday, January 16. The reason is, Ihsan continued, in early 2022, political parties have started to prepare for the 2024 General Election. The public sphere has also been decorated with discussions about presidential and vice presidential candidates. the election has been postponed to 2027, it is not impossible that political stability and its impact on security will be disrupted," said Ihsan.

Ihsan explained that the election became a space for constitutional power struggles. Therefore, according to him, if the election is postponed, there will definitely be repercussions.

"Not to mention, the big parties still want the election schedule to be held in 2024," he explained. This, he said, could erode public trust and even the business world.

"The impact could be to actually reduce investor trust because there is no legal certainty regarding the process of changing leadership in Indonesia," he concluded.
