South Jakarta Police Ensure Singer Velline Chu Undergoes Drug Rehabilitation

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit confirmed that singer Velline Chu and her husband, Budi Harianto, were undergoing rehabilitation after the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) granted their second assessment.

"Velline and her husband have been undergoing rehabilitation since a few days ago," said South Jakarta Police Narcotics Head, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Achmad Akbar, to reporters, Saturday, January 15.

Previously, Velline Chu's family and husband submitted a request for rehabilitation to the South Jakarta Metro Police regarding the abuse of methamphetamine on Wednesday, January 12.

"Velline and her husband are no longer detained at the Resort Police, but have been handed over to BNN. Later, BNN will determine the place of rehabilitation," said Akbar.

Velline Chu and Budi Hartono were arrested by the police at their residence in Jatisampurna District, Bekasi, on Saturday, January 8.

The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Police Commissioner Endra Zulpan, explained that this arrest was initiated by a public report regarding suspicions of the two suspects who were suspected of frequently taking drugs at their home.

From the arrest, the police obtained a number of evidences, namely one plastic bag of crystal methamphetamine weighing 0.08 grams and a glass pipette that was used cleanly for methamphetamine weighing 2.7 grams.

"They were both positive for using methamphetamine and it was also recognized from the examination carried out by investigators," said Zulpan.

For their actions, the two suspects were charged with article 112 paragraph 1 subsidiary article 127 paragraph 1 letter a juncto article 132 paragraph 1 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with the threat of a minimum sentence of 4 and a maximum of 12 years.
