JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin on the 39th Anniversary of the Special Crimes Sector (Pidsus), asked that the handling of corruption cases at the Attorney General's Office and at the regional level could go hand in hand without any loopholes.

Burhanuddin sees that there are still gaps in the quality of handling corruption cases at the Attorney General's Office and regional work units.

"Don't be too lame, when the Special Prosecution Service of the Attorney General is running fast, but the Pidsus in the regions is still slow and ultimately far behind. So, both at the center and in the regions the Pidsus Division must have the same breath in eradicating corruption," said Burhanuddin quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 29.

Burhanuddin appreciated the achievement of the Special Prosecutor's Special Service Division at the age of 39.

Some of these achievements include handling and uncovering hundreds of corruption cases, and some of them are high-profile cases, such as Jiwasraya and Asabri which cost the state finances in the tens of trillions.

They even give maximum demands, namely life imprisonment and the death penalty for corruption defendants.

Another success, at the end of 2021, the Special Investigations Division again proved its commitment to eradicating corruption in order to realize law enforcement that can provide certainty, justice and legal benefits, which is related to the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4952K/Pid.Sus/2021 dated December 8 2021 which decided the defendant Irianto who was tried in the textile import corruption case.

Burhanuddin said the Special Prosecutor's Office of the Attorney General's Office made a legal breakthrough in proving the state's economic losses in the textile import cases.

"Because as we all know that the losses referred to in the Corruption Crime Act are not only related to state financial losses but also state economic losses," said Burhanuddin.

For this reason, the Attorney General hopes that all levels of the Special Specialist Committee, especially in the regions, will take this historic moment as a milestone for changing the mindset of handling corruption cases towards whether or not there is a loss to the country's economy.

Burhanuddin added, the Pidsus Division is a showcase for reputation and a benchmark for the success of law enforcement in the Prosecutor's Office.

Therefore, the Pidsus Sector should be able to become a "role model" in handling corruption cases properly, namely handling cases that are not only able to punish and provide a deterrent effect, but are also able to recover state financial losses, provide benefits to the community, and improve governance.

At the end of his briefing, Burhanuddin reminded the challenges that will be faced by the Special Investigations Division, such as the revision of Law Number 16 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian Attorney General's Office and strategic changes in the special criminal field related to the Attorney General's authority to determine the use of schikking fines for tax crimes. , customs crime or other economic crime.

The next challenge is the sustainability of sustainable development and the state of the country's economy that must remain stable, then the public's assessment of efforts to eradicate corruption is still considered not good.

Burhanuddin said that the challenge must be responded quickly and accurately. Handle corruption and other special crimes professionally and without being noisy, then optimize the recovery of state financial losses. Prepare supporting instruments, and improve facilities and infrastructure, including the ability of human resources.

Furthermore, one of the important things that became the main focus of improvement in the Prosecutor's Office, said Burhanuddin, was the issue of integrity. Don't let this integrity problem become a stumbling block that makes the prosecutor's office fall.

All Adhyaksa personnel are asked to maintain the dignity of the Prosecutor's Office as a leading institution in eradicating corruption, as well as the face of Indonesian legal certainty, in the eyes of the people and in the eyes of the international community. Without a clean and trustworthy Prosecutor's Office, an important foundation for national development will also be fragile.

"Don't destroy the high expectations of the community because there are one or two individuals who have no integrity," said Burhanuddin.
