Anies Baswedan Asked Not To Ignore Hundreds Of Alleged Corruption Reports Entering The KPK From Jakarta

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was asked not to ignore the 471 reports of alleged riots from his area that were submitted to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Moreover, this number is the highest compared to other regions in the country.

The coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), Boyamin Saiman, asked Anies Baswedan to make improvements and evaluate his staff. This is important in order to prevent the occurrence of corrupt practices in DKI.

"When it comes to warnings, the Governor of DKI Jakarta must be better at implementing the budget planning, use, and accountability system," said Boyamin in his statement to reporters.

"So at the end of his term of office, he must really monitor all the use of money and money that was previously, for example, overpaid, must be immediately ordered to be returned," added the anti-corruption activist.

Not only that, but MAKI also reminded Anies to coordinate with the KPK and other law enforcers to create an anti-corruption system. In addition, he was also asked to be alert if there was a corruption case that befell his subordinates.

"As yesterday, for example, the Jakpro case (alleged corruption in the Formula E racing event), they (the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government) are proactive, they are good," said Boyamin.

Even so, MAKI asked the public not to immediately view the corruption of the Anies government even though there were many reports that came from DKI Jakarta. The reason, Boyamin said, was that not all reports of alleged corruption met the reporting requirements.

The number of complaints that go to the KPK

Some time ago, Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said that there were 3,708 internal complaints received, some of which have been verified.

"We noted that up to November 30, 2021, the KPK had received a total of 3,708 complaints and had verified 3,673 complaints," he told reporters.

Ali appreciated the role of the community, especially in efforts to eradicate corruption through complaints to the KPK. Moreover, the anti-corruption commission cannot run alone without the participation of other parties.

"KPK is well aware that community participation in efforts to eradicate corruption is very important and needed. Moreover, most of the cases handled by the KPK stem from public reports," he stressed.

"For this reason, we really appreciate the parties who continue to be persistent in their role and are optimistic about joint efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia," Ali added.

Furthermore, he said the public could see how to make a complaint through the KPK website. Not only that but monitoring can also be done through kpk.go.id/statistik/complaint-community.

While viewed on the website, the highest number of reports until October 2021 was carried out by mail with a total of 2,679 complaints. Furthermore, reports via email of 124 complaints, KWS 21 complaints, direct or demonstration 44 complaints, and messages as many as 90 complaints.

The five most reported areas were 396 complaints, West Java 332 complaints, North Sumatra 280 complaints, East Java 264 complaints, and Central Java 194 complaints.
