Prabowo Prepares Government Regulations To Eradicate Online Gambling

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized his commitment to eradicating online gambling in Indonesia. One of the strategic steps that will be taken is to issue government regulations (PP) to tighten regulations and increase the effectiveness of eradicating this illegal practice.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid after a limited meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta on Monday 17 February.

"The president has again discussed the development of online gambling handling. One of the steps that will be taken in the near future is to issue government regulations (PP) that regulate more firmly efforts to eradicate online gambling," he said.

Muetya revealed that the government has blocked nearly 1 million online gambling sites. However, he admits blocking alone is not enough to solve this problem completely.

"Almost 1,000,000 sites have been blocked. However, the take-down action of the site does not completely solve the problem without any other more comprehensive efforts," he added regarding Prabowo Subianto who will issue government regulations (PP) related to the eradication of online gambling.

The government is also implementing strict rules for digital platforms to be more proactive in blocking online gambling and pornographic content.

"The Ministry of Communication and Trade has implemented a system, namely a digital platform that is obliged to block content related to child pornography and online gambling as soon as possible," explained Muetya.

In addition to the new regulations, the government will also cooperate with the police, prosecutors, and various related parties to ensure that online gambling eradication runs more effectively.

"According to the president's direction, eradicating online gambling must be carried out in a sustainable manner with cross-sectoral cooperation," he concluded regarding Prabowo Subianto who will issue government regulations (PP) related to eradicating online gambling.
