BMKG Palembang Predicts Heavy Rain Potentially Floods

PALEMBANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency for the Climatology Station (BMKG) Palembang, South Sumatra, predicts that heavy rains will occur in this province evenly in the next week and have the potential for flooding.

Head of the Analysis and Forecast Unit of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II Palembang Meteorological Station, Veronica Sinta Andayani, appealed to the public to be vigilant and avoid activities in water areas, especially as of December 10-11, 2021.

"The impact of heavy rains such as floods or flash floods still has the potential to occur in the South Sumatra region", he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 10.

According to Veronica, in the next few days heavy rains have the potential for flash floods to occur in several districts/cities, including Banyuasin Regency as many as 13 sub-districts (Muara Sugihan, Air Saleh, Makati Jaya, Banyuasin II, Pulau Rimau, Talang Kelapa, Tanjung Lago, Sumber the clans of Telang, Muara Telang, Air Kumbang, Muara Padang, Banyuasin I, Rambutan, Rantau Bayur, Betung, Suak Tapeh, and Banyuasin III).

The city of Palembang has four sub-districts (Sako, Kalidoni, Sematang Borang, and Plaju). Ogan Komering Ilir Regency has 12 sub-districts (Pangkalan Lapam, Jejawi, Pampangan, Sirah Pulau Padang, East Pedamaran, Pedamaran, Cengal, Tulung Selapan, Winning River, Air Sugihan, Mesuji, and Mesuji Raya).

North Musi Rawas Regency has five sub-districts (Rawas Ilir, Rupit, Karang Jaya, Ulu Rawas, and Rawas Ulu). Penukal Abab District, Lematang Ilir in Abab. Muara Enim Regency has five sub-districts (River Rattan, Muara Belida, Semendo Darat Ulu, Semendo Darat Laut, and Semendo Darat Tengah).

Then Ogan Komering Ulu Regency 15 sub-districts (Lengkiti, Sosoh Buay Termite, Lubuk Raja, Sinar Peninjauan, Review, Lubuk Batang, Kedaton Peninjauan Raya, Semidang Aji, Batu Raja Timur, Batu Raja Barat, Pengandonan, Muara Jaya, Ulu Ogan, Lengkiti, and Muara Jaya).

Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency has five sub-districts (Martapura, Buay Pemuka Peliung, Madang Tribe III, Madang Tribe II, and Madang Tribe I).

South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has five sub-districts (Beringin Island, Muaradua Kisam, Sindang Danau, Kisam Tinggi, and Kisam Ilir).

There are eight sub-districts of Lubuk Linggau City (South Lubuk Linggau I, West Lubuk Linggau I, West Lubuk Linggau II, East Lubuk Linggau II, East Lubuk Linggau I, North Lubuk Linggau II, North Lubuk Linggau I, and South Lubuk Linggau II).

Previously, the BMKG had officially announced that the potential for hydrometeorological disasters in this province had increased as a result of the La Nina storm and the peak of the year-end rainy season.

This is stated in the warning letter numbered KL.01.01/005/KPLG/XII/2021 which was published on Monday, December 6.

Palm BMKG Class I Palembang Wandayantolis said the active La Nina phenomenon at the end of 2021 has the potential to last until early 2022.

In general, these conditions can trigger an increase in rainfall of around 20-40 percent of the average. La Nina also triggers an increase in the number of extreme rainy days with an intensity of >50 mm/day.

According to him, the potential for increased rainfall and the number of extreme rainy days will continue to occur in the South Sumatra region until March 2022.
