Congratulations, Two Original Indonesian Videos Win the China-ASEAN Short Video Competition

JAKARTA - Two Indonesian video works won awards in the 5th ASEAN-China Friendship and Cooperation Short Video Contest in Nanning, China. "City of Happiness" won the Excellence Awards, while "Boundless Love" won the Special Awards Micro Drama.

"City of Happiness" is a work by Rian Fahardhi Risyad, while "Boundless Love" is produced by Nanyang Breeds Media. The awards were announced at an event held in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Thursday.

Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to China Irene said that Indonesia places people-to-people exchanges as an important foundation for ASEAN-China cooperation. According to him, collaboration between communities and cultural actors will strengthen the partnership between the two parties.

The contest with the theme "Hand in Hand, From Heart to Heart, Together for Modernization" was opened since December 2025 and received 8,774 works from ASEAN countries as well as China.

Rian said the idea of "Happiness City" was born after visiting the hutong in Beijing. The residential area inspired him to imagine a city with residents who know, help, and take care of each other.

Through his video, Rian described a city that supports immigrants to get jobs while providing adequate public space. According to him, city development should be oriented towards increasing the happiness of its citizens.

Rian, who also won an award at the same competition last year in a different category, said his creative process started from anxiety about various life problems.

According to Rian, anxiety is not an enemy, but a signal for someone to pay attention to certain issues. This idea became the main foundation in the preparation of the concept of his video.

He then poured the idea through the concept of a city that not only solves traffic problems, but also helps reduce people's anxiety through more humane space planning.

"What if public spaces help people find work, while also providing inner health, a sense of purpose, and hope? Don't waste your anxiety, listen, and then turn it into something," said Rian.

Nanyang Breeds Media CEO Gandhi Priambodo said "Boundless Love" tells the story of an Indonesian and Chinese couple who fall in love with each other, but must face challenges due to cultural differences before finally understanding each other.

"The shooting is in Palembang and the story is about Chinese foreign workers who work at a power plant in South Sumatra who fall in love with a nun who works at a clinic in South Sumatra. They shouldn't get married because they are different cultures and not approved by the family," said Gandhi.

The story continues how their love story can still survive after they each know that different cultures are one of the colors.

"We see that there is an announcement of short film festival activities from China Publisher and thank God we received an award," said Gandhi.

In this competition, 39 works from China and ASEAN countries were selected to receive awards. The winners are from China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.

The gold award winner received a prize of 1,000 US dollars, the silver award each received 800 US dollars, the bronze award each received 500 US dollars, the special award for micro drama each received 400 US dollars, and there was also a special award.
